The 2020s are shaping up to be an excellent decade for SUV lovers. We’ve already seen the 2022 Cadillac XT5 (and its gorgeous refresh), but there are more crossovers in town with impressive performance and design. The 2022 Porsche Panamera is a standout among crossovers: It has sleek styling, a luxurious interior, and robust engines that’ll make you feel like you’re driving a sports car instead of just trying to get kids from home to soccer practice on time. Both vehicles are fantastic in their ways, so we’d compare them side by side here at Manhattan Motorcars!
Design & Style
The Panamera’s exterior design is strong and bold. Its profile is a bit like a water droplet but with a blunt front end and bulging rear fenders that give it a modern look. The headlights are large and rounded, with integrated LED daytime running lights that flow into the wing-like grille. The bottom half of the grille has an unfinished look to it, giving it more of an air intake look than something you’d expect on a luxury sedan—but it works!
The XT5 has similar features at first glance: its front end has large headlights with LED running lights integrated into them, while its lower grille isn’t finished at all; there’s just some exposed metal showing where you’d normally see chrome trim or other detailing work done by designers in their CAD programs before they send off their final renderings to production engineers.
You might think that the Panamera’s interior is just a Porsche, but it has its unique design. At first glance, it looks like an evolution of the 992 911 interior in terms of materials and overall layout. But subtle differences make it stand out from other Porsches in this generation and previous ones.
For example, the central display on top of the dashboard is smaller than usual while still housing all your typical infotainment functions, such as climate control, music selection, and navigation instructions. There are also no buttons for those functions on either side because they’ve been replaced by touchscreens integrated right into those consoles’ surfaces instead (which we’ll talk more about later).
The steering wheel stands out with its double-ring design, similar to what you see in newer Macan models or even older 911s (although there’s no shift lever sticking out from behind it).
Technology & Safety
The 2022 Porsche Panamera is an all-wheel-drive luxury sedan with a turbocharged V8 engine. It comes standard with 4G LTE Wi-Fi, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and an advanced safety package with adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist. It has regular over-the-air software updates for its infotainment system and camera systems for ultimate connectivity.
The 2022 Cadillac XT5 is a midsize crossover SUV that seats up to seven passengers. Its standard safety features include automatic emergency braking, lane change alert with side blind zone alert, rear cross-traffic alert, and blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. It also comes with pre-collision warning plus pedestrian detection and forward collision warning plus braking.
Performance
The 2022 Porsche Panamera is powered by a 2.9L V-6 Engine that produces 355 kW (475 hp) of power and 600 Nm (331 lb-ft) of torque. The 2022 Cadillac XT5 features a 2.0 L Turbocharged Inline Four-Cylinder engine that generates 180 kW (235 hp).
The Bottom Line
It’s hard to pick a winner between these two vehicles since they’re both phenomenal. The 2022 Cadillac XT5 offers an excellent driving experience but has a different level of luxury and refinement than the 2022 Porsche Panamera. It’s versatile and comfortable but still fast and fun to drive. Plus, with all the amenities that come standard on this car, there’s hardly anything left to want from a luxury crossover SUV like this one!
