2018 Porsche Panamera vs. 2018 Nissan GT-R

The 2018 GT-R is Nissan’s premier high performance vehicle. It has an outstanding composure and AWD grip, with fast shifts in its dual clutch and acceleration which has been compared to a rocket ship. But it is challenged by the 2018 Porsche Panamera, a car which has a wide selection of engines, a gorgeous interior and street burning performance. Which of them should you purchase?

Design & Style

The newest Panamera relinquishes the lumpiness seen in previous editions. It has overhangs which have been shortened with haunches that are muscular. The taillights wrap around the rear, with a small strip of LEDs which are red and chrome. The roofline also extends further back than in older models. The Nissan GT-R has the appearance you’d expect from a supercar. It has been modulated, with lots of spoilers, air intakes and flares. It is certainly flashy but not too much so. It has large taillights which are circular and the grille has been widened.

Technology & Safety

Despite being a car built for speed, Nissan has done a lot to make the GT-R as comfortable as possible, without sacrificing performance. New seats have been added with shift paddle controls that have been incorporated into the steering wheel, making them more convenient to access. There are rear seats, but not a whole lot of room for the legs or head. In terms of safety, Nissan has added a bunch of features, such as systems for stability control and rearview cameras. The Porsche Panamera provides generous space, with the latest safety tech such as emergency automatic brakes, warnings for forward collisions, cruise control which is adaptive and parking assistance. Neither the Panamera or GT-R has been officially tested by the NHTSA or IIHS, but this is common among high end luxury vehicles due to cost.

The Porsche Panamera is equipped with a V6 3 liter engine that can produce 330 horsepower. This means it can go from zero to sixty in about 5.4 seconds. The Panamera is fast and maneuverable without being brutish. Its performance is linear in nature with a muffled roar that will thrill those who pilot it. The Nissan GT-R is dynamite on wheels, with a V6 3.8 liter engine that plays a key role in its spaced age power train. Its all-wheel drive has been praised for its excellent response time.

The Bottom Line

Both the Porsche Panamera and Nissan GT-R are enviable. Their acceleration, handling and speed leave the competition in the dust, and due to the fact only a select few can afford them owning either will convey a sense of prestige. However, the GT-R is considered overpriced by many, due to its insufficient space when compared to the Porsche, and this combined with its super tuner demeanor is a turn off for some, so the Panamera wins.
