Performance
The Porsche Macan has a slight edge in performance, with a turbo premium intercooled unleaded I-4 engine that can produce a maximum of 252 horsepower at 5000 rpm. The BMW X4, by comparison, has the exact same engine type but produces a maximum of 240 horsepower with 5000 rpm. Each uses a gasoline injection direct fuel system and their performance metrics are so close overall that few fortunate enough to drive both will notice a real difference.
The Bottom Line
The BMW X4 and Porsche Macan are unbelievably close when it comes to seating capacity, mpg, safety, looks and performance. Even the asking price for each is about the same. However, the BMW X4 wants too much extra money for Apple CarPlay, and while the overall space is similar to the Porsche, the headroom in the back seat has been compromised, so in this tightly contested race the Porsche Macan comes out on top.
