2018 Porsche Cayenne vs. 2018 Lexus LX

Automobile industry pundits have praised the 2018 Lexus LX for its power, towing capacity, and relaxing interior. But how does it stack up against the 2018 Porsche Cayenne, an SUV which is prized for its potent engine, a range of options and superb handling?

Design & Style

With the newest Cayenne Porsche has taken a design approach which prioritizes the driver. The surfaces, both inside and out, are elegant and curvy. An analog clock can be seen in the cabin, along with an instrument panel that sweeps, vents which have been sculpted, and surfaces which are covered only in the highest quality materials. By comparison, the Lexus LX is more angular but no less stunning. The grille is distinctive and beak like, with a cabin where the controls have been situated beneath the large digital display. The LX comes in a plethora of different materials, colors and patterns, all of which are lush and pleasing to the eyes.

Technology & Safety

The Lexus LX comes complete with many safety features, including ten airbags. Drivers can also expect an off-road option, rearview camera, frontal impact warnings, stability control, 180-degree camera view, automatic emergency brakes, warnings when departing lanes and high beams which are automated. Within the cabin, passengers will be spoiled by heated and ventilated seats, leather surfaces, keyless ignition, an entertainment center, and an audio system from Mark Levinson that consists of 19 speakers.

The Porsche Cayenne has many of the same safety features as the Lexus, as well as car seat mounts, pretensioners for seatbelts, warnings for forward impacts, warnings when departing lanes, adaptive headlights and a camera with surround view capabilities. Within the cabin, passengers can expect perks such as seven-inch touch screens, a digital driver display, seats that can be power adjusted, a power tailgate, climate control which is multi-zone and parking assistance.

Few SUVs offer the power and performance of the Porsche Cayenne. It comes with a standard V6 engine that is 3.6 liters and capable of producing 300 horsepower with 295 pounds of torque. Those that want greater power and acceleration can buy the turbocharged version, which produces 420 horsepower with 406 pounds of torque, going from zero to sixty in just over five seconds. The Lexus LX comes with a standard V8, 5.7-liter engine that can produce 383 horsepower with 403 pounds of torque, with an eight-speed automatic.

The Bottom Line

The Lexus LX and Porsche Cayenne are well matched in a number of areas. But the third-row seat of the Lexus is seriously lacking, as is the gas mileage and the handling, which some have described like trying to steer an elephant. Therefore the Porsche Cayenne is victorious.
