2018 Porsche 718 Cayman vs. 2018 Cadillac CTS-V

The 2018 Porsche 718 Cayman is a GTS edition which impresses a great deal. Its potent engine, luxurious interior and enhanced transmission make it fun and relaxing to drive. It faces off against the 2018 Cadillac CTS-V, a car that has surprising acceleration, amazing composure, and wonderful steering. Which of these two is king of the hill?

Design & Style

The Cadillac CTS-V is as sharp and shiny as a sabre. It is constructed with sheet metal that has been steam pressed, with an avant garde demeanor. When decked out in black trim and a hood which is domed it looks flat out intimidating. The cockpit is futuristic in appearance, but in a subdued way that doesn’t overdo it. The faux suede and treated leather makes sitting in it akin to receiving a massage. The Porsche 718 Cayman is the epitome of design perfection. This two seat car has been updated with exterior lines that are sharper, and a more muscular appearance overall. It is still far curvier than the Cadillac, but its twenty-inch wheels and sophisticated interior are menacing. It has enough controls and switches to rival the space shuttle.

Technology & Safety

A number of safety measures have been incorporated into the newest incarnation of the Porsche Cayman. Just a few of them include a complete set of airbags, and smart control for stability and traction, which will ensure the vehicle is always traveling in the right direction. Rearview cameras come standard, and buyers can also expect parking sensors and emergency automatic brakes. Critics have pointed out the decision of Cadillac not to include emergency automatic brakes in the CTS-V, an issue that is hopefully resolved soon. Otherwise, it has a substantial disadvantage when compared to the Cayman.

The Cadillac CTS-V is built more for luxury than performance. However, this doesn’t it mean it should be underestimated. It has a V8 engine which is capable of producing a pulse pounding 640 horsepower. Porsche is a name that has become synonymous with performance, and the specs of the latest 718 Cayman show why this is the case. The GTS variant can produce a maximum of 365 horsepower with 317 pounds of torque, allowing it to blaze from zero to sixty in less than four seconds.

The Bottom Line

While the Cadillac CTS-V has a horsepower advantage over the Porsche 718 Cayman, this comes at the cost of maneuverability and important safety features.  Making a car capable of producing over 600 horsepower that doesn’t have emergency automatic brakes isn’t just irresponsible, it’s foolish, so the Porsche 718 Cayman wins.
