2018 Porsche 718 Cayman vs. 2018 Cadillac ATS-V

The 2018 Porsche 718 Cayman is the latest edition of a series which has dominated the performance market for many years. This is the result of its beautiful interior, its superb transmission and muscular frame. But it faces a true contender in the 2018 Cadillac ATS-V, a car praised for its powerful engine, transmission, and handling/ride balance.  Which of the two is supreme?

Design & Style

The newest Cadillac is distinctive for the fascias in the front and back, something that is absent in other models. The fenders have also been widened, which increases the car’s presence. The body is aerodynamically oriented, with alloy wheels that are 19 inches and encapsulated in rubber built for performance. The Porsche 718 Cayman has been redesigned, with new twenty inch wheels that give it a more aggressive look. The ride height has also been reduced by about ten millimeters. Within the interior, the dash is premium grade with the option to add soft, soothing leather.

Technology & Safety

The 718 Cayman utilizes some of the most advanced safety countermeasures known to man. This includes stability control, intelligent traction, rearview cameras, blind area monitoring, emergency automatic brakes, and cruise and lane control which is active and adaptive. The outward vision is superb, and within the cabin, passengers will be comforted by an array of goodies such as USB and Bluetooth connectivity, an audio system with six speakers, and touchscreens.

When it comes to safety the Cadillac ATS-V is highly regarded. It has many of the same safety features as the Cayman, including warnings when departing lanes, high beams which are automated, and alerts for frontal impacts. Within the cabin, passengers can expect Apple CarPlay, CUE infotainment, the OnStar system which utilizes LTE 4G, and a host of other perks.

Performance

The Cadillac ATS-V is equipped with a standard V6, twin turbo engine that is well connected to the chassis. This gives it monster performance, capable of producing up to 464 horsepower with 445 pounds of torque. Drive tests indicate that it can accelerate from zero to sixty in 3.8 seconds. The Porsche 718 Cayman GTS edition can produce up to 365 horsepower with 317 pounds of torque, which also enables it to reach sixty miles per hour in less than 4 seconds.

The Bottom Line

Both of these vehicles have a lot going for them. They are eye-catching, rich in performance and offer luxurious interiors. However, despite the incredible performance offered by the Cadillac’s engine, it does not have emergency automatic brakes, which is unacceptable for its price tag, nor does it have AWD, so the Porsche 718 Cayman is the clear winner.
